Tuesday Accident on Harris Hill Claims Life of Gerry Woman

February 10, 2016 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Chautauqua County SheriffELLICOTT – A Gerry woman has died following a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Harris Hill Rd. in the town of Ellicott Tuesday afternoon.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office say 35 year-old Jill Hamrick died as a result of injuries sustained from a near head-on collision with another vehicle.

The accident took place at about 1:40 p.m. Investigators say Hamrick was traveling south when her vehicle was struck by an oncoming vehicle operated by 40 year-old Kerry Jo Mitchener, who was traveling north bound. Mitchener told investigators that she was distracted when she reached for an item in her vehicle and veered into the vehicle operated by Hamrick.

Hamrick had to be freed from her vehicle by Falconer rescue using the jaws of life. She was then transported to WCA Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Mitchener sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to WCA hospital for treatment. She was charged with failure to keep right and will appear in town of Ellicott court at a later date.

Harris Hill Road was closed for approximately three hours while the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team investigated the scene.
