Student Enrollment at JCC Exceeds Expectations for 2019 Semester

September 3, 2019 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

JAMESTOWN – For the first time since 2010, Jamestown Community College began the academic year exceeding its budget goal for full-time equivalent students.

“In addition, we are above last year’s actual enrollment on the first day of classes by 17.3 FTE, or 1.7%, a reflection on the outstanding work done by many to increase our enrollment,” noted JCC president Daniel DeMarte.

As of the first day of classes, the school says a total of 2,500 students – including 1,861 full-time, 773 continuing, 798 first-time, 163 readmitted, and 127 transfers – were enrolled for the fall semester.

DeMarte also pointed to other significant increases within the student population, including near full capacity in JCC’s residence halls with 322 students, compared to 236 at the start of the fall 2018 semester.

There’s also been an increase in JCC’s international student population, with 55 students enrolled from 25 different countries and representing six of the world’s seven continents.

The college has also seen an increase of student athletes, from 85 at the start of the fall 2018 semester to 155 filling the rosters in 10 sports, which includes the addition of three new teams.

And 28 students have enrolled in the Workforce Readiness Scholarship program, providing preparation in a variety of disciplines at JCC’s Manufacturing Technology Institute.
