JAMESTOWN – A city man has been charged with possession of a stolen handgun and reckless endangerment following an investigation into shots being fired in the city on Wednesday night.

According to Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, officers were called to 821 Prendergast Ave. at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday on a report of several gunshots being fired in the area.

Upon arrival at the scene officers determined that an altercation had taken place and that two shots were fired by a subject from a handgun. The shots were fired after the subject was reportedly confronted by another person with a baseball bat in the altercation.

The shooter fled the area but was located moments later walking on E. Sixth St. by patrol officers. The shooter was identified as 28 year-old Jonathan Negron-Rosario. Police questioned Negron-Rosario and found him to be in possession of a loaded .357 revolver. The revolver was later found to have been stolen from Camden, NJ in 1993.
