Recommendations from the commission\u2019s final report include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expanding early education<\/li>\n<li>Expanding the use of technology in public schools, especially schools that have not been able to keep pace.<\/li>\n<li>Rewarding the best and brightest educators, especially those that work in struggling schools.<\/li>\n<li>Replicating programs that connect high school to college in order to create greater college opportunities, especially for underrepresented students.<\/li>\n<li>Strategically invest in higher education to successfully connect students to the workforce.<\/li>\n<li>Focus on efficiencies to reinvest administrative savings into the classroom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The last recommendation is of particular interest for rural schools, because the Commission is recommending that the state expand opportunities for shared services, reduce obstacles to the school district merger process, and provide mechanisms for the creation of regional high schools.\u00a0 All of those issues have recently surfaced here in Chautauqua County.<\/p>\n<p>Officials on the commission say the recommendations from the report will work toward breaking down barriers to student achievement and improving the quality of education for all students.<\/p>\n<p>A complete copy of the report can be found at the governor\u2019s website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\">governor.ny.gov<\/a> or www.NYPuttingStudentsFirst.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ALBANY &#8211; A state education commission has released its final report detailing things that need to be done in order to improve public education.
