{"id":4729,"date":"2013-03-18T13:25:25","date_gmt":"2013-03-18T17:25:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wrfalp.wordpress.com\/?p=4729"},"modified":"2013-03-18T13:25:25","modified_gmt":"2013-03-18T17:25:25","slug":"morning-news-public-hearing-on-lafayette-st-abandonment-is-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wrfalp.com\/morning-news-public-hearing-on-lafayette-st-abandonment-is-tonight\/","title":{"rendered":"MORNING NEWS: Public Hearing on Lafayette St. Abandonment is Tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JAMESTOWN &#8211; The <strong>Jamestown City Council<\/strong> will be holding its monthly voting session tonight in city hall with a public hearing involving the closure of a downtown street also scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>The council is inviting the public to come in and offer its thoughts on closing <strong>Lafayette St.<\/strong> between 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Streets. The closure is being considered based on a request from three businesses in the area: the <strong>Jamestown Savings Bank Arena<\/strong>, <strong>Shawbucks<\/strong>, and the <strong>BWB business center<\/strong>. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to the property owners, closing the street will allow for increased parking. Their plan is to make the street one-way, and convert the parallel parking spaces to diagonal spaces, thus increasing the total number of parking spots available.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s planning commission has already reviewed the plan, talked with the property owners, and has given its preliminary approval \u2013 although commission member <strong>Jim Olson<\/strong> voted against the plan.<\/p>\n<p>The public hearing is scheduled to begin at 7:20 p.m. tonight.
