That cut would eliminate the proposed 10 cent-per thousand tax hike by Horrigan, and would actually reduce taxes by 2.7 cents from the 2017 tax rate.<\/p>\n<p>Among the recommended cuts was a $218,000 decrease from the Sheriff\u2019s Department\u2019s proposed budget, cutting a proposed assistant public defender position \u2013 saving $80,000, and a reduction of $68,000 from the district attorney\u2019s office proposed budget.<\/p>\n<p>The recommended adjustments will be reviewed and discussed by the full legislature during its October voting session, scheduled for Oct. 25.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MAYVILLE &#8211; The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting that members of the county legislature\u2019s audit and control committee are recommending cuts to county executive Vince Horrigan\u2019s 2018 executive county budget in order to not only eliminate a proposed property tax increase, but actually result in a slight tax reduction.
