State law currently requires all individuals be 18 years of age to purchase Tobacco products. The local law was first introduced in March <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrfalp.com\/chautauqua-county-legislature-tables-proposed-local-law-to-increase-legal-age-for-buying-tobacco-products\/\" target=\"_blank\">but was tabled after some lawmakers requested more time<\/a> to research the possible economic impact the change would have on local business.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrfalp.com\/listen-community-matters-increasing-age-to-purchase-tobacco-in-chautauqua-county\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>[LISTEN] Community Matters \u2013 Increasing Age to Purchase Tobacco in Chautauqua County<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The legislature will also discuss using an emergency allocation from the county\u2019s fund balance to the Department of Health and Human Services to help offset an unforeseen increase in the county\u2019s Medicaid payment to the state.\u00a0 The allocation was approved by the legislature\u2019s health and human services committee but unanimously denied by the audit and control committee, with members feeling the department should first try to identify cost reductions to offset the increase before asking for more money for its 2016 budget.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday&#8217;s meeting begins at 6:30 in the legislature chambers in Mayville (3rd Floor, Gerace Office Building) and is open to the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MAYVILLE &#8211; The Chautauqua County Legislature meets Wednesday night in Mayville for its monthly voting session.
