Three GOP Candidates will Square off in Senate Primary

March 19, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

ROCHESTER – Republicans in New York will have to wait until a state-wide primary in June to decide who will represent their party in this year’s U.S. Senate race. During the state convention on Friday in Rochester, three candidates received at least 25 percent of the votes from delegates, forcing the primary. They are New York City Attorney Wendy Long (47.37 percent); Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos (27.36 percent); and Congressman Bob Turner (25.28 percent).

The candidates will now be preparing for the June 26 primary. The winner will square off against incumbent democrat Kirsten Gillibrand – who will be running for her first full-term as the state’s junior representative in the U.S. Senate.
