The forecast for the remainder of this week is calling for chilly temperatures in the single digits to mid-teens, with a wind chill that will make it feel as cold as 10 to 15 degrees below zero during some portions of the week.

The coldest weather will arrive during the second half of the week. The daytime high for Thursday will only reach the lower teens, while on Friday and Saturday it will only be in the single digits, with subzero temperatures predicted for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening and overnight.

Things will be looking up by Sunday with temperatures reaching the mid 20s, and the forecast is calling for even warmer temperatures  next Monday, with a high predicted to reach the mid 30s.

It’s a similar story for much of the northeast of the United States. Meanwhile, winter is making its presence known in other areas of the country, including the deep south, which rarely see flurries, much less accumulation. That will change on Wednesday when a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain arrives along the Atlantic seaboard from Florida to North Carolina.

The National Weather Service says up to an inch of snow could fall as far south as Tallahassee, Florida and up to 2 inches of snow could fall on Savannah, Georgia. Accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible in eastern North Carolina.

The National Weather Service issued wind chill advisories and freeze warnings Tuesday covering a vast area from South Texas to Canada and from Montana through New England.

In Chautauqua County, a  wind chill watch remains in effect from 4 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
