A map from the National Weather Service showing the areas that were under a Tornado Watch Sunday night, April 14, 2019.

Much of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York got blasted with a major storm system as it swept through the region Sunday night and into early this morning.

The storm, which moved through the area beginning around 8 p.m. Sunday, brought strong winds, lightening, and significant rainfall. It also lead to a Tornado Watch being issued for several counties, including both Chautauqua and Warren Counties, with the watch being upgraded to a warning in Warren County.

The worst of the storm had passed over shortly after 9 p.m., although strong winds and rain continued to move across the region until early morning.

In the Jamestown area, residents woke up to some downed branches and scattered debris. But areas to the east and south of the city saw downed trees and power lines. Outages were reported in Cattaraugus County and a small tornado was reported to have touched down just to the west of Warren, PA.

The storm was part of a cold front moving into the region, which caused temperatures to drop from the mid 60s on Sunday to the upper 30s by Monday morning. Temperatures will remain cool for the rest of Monday and into Tuesday morning before things begin warming up again, with a high in the mid 50s for Tuesday afternoon and in the mid 60s by Wednesday afternoon.

JAMESTOWN – It was a busy night for emergency service crews throughout Chautauqua County as a strong thunderstorm whipped across the region on Monday.

The storm caused some wind damage in several neighborhoods in and around Jamestown, with trees falling onto some houses and even a couple of city streets. Isolated flooding was also reported in some areas as a large volume of rain fell in a relatively short period of time.

Some power outages were reported throughout the region, but most affected a limited number of people and were taken care of by late Monday night.

While storms aren’t expected to continue this week, cooler evening temperatures should take over the next several days, with temperatures tonight falling down into the upper 30s and a high only in the mid 50s on Wednesday.
