On Friday the St. Susan’s board of directors announced Jeffrey Smith replace Sue Colwell as the new executive director, starting in November. Smith is a native of the area who’s lived in Florida the past 13 years.

Colwell announced earlier this year that she would be retiring from the position.

The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting Monday that current St. Susan executive director Sue Colwell will be retiring from her position that she’s held for the past four years. The decision to retire is so she can spend more time with her family.

The St. Susan center board of directors will establish a search committee, which will be used to help find a new executive director by November. Meanwhile, Colwell will continue to help out at the center in a volunteer capacity.

The St. Susan center is the largest operating Soup Kitchen in Chautauqua County, serving hundreds of meals on a daily basis. It is located inside the Gateway Center building on Water St. in Jamestown.

The 5th annual Homeless Person’s Memorial Day will be held Thursday Night, Dec. 19, beginning at 6 p.m. at the St. Susan Center located at 31 Water Street in Jamestown.

Since 1990, on or near the first day of winter, which is the longest night of the year, the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) has sponsored this event. The purpose is to bring attention to the tragedy of homelessness and to remember those who lost their lives because of homelessness.

A candlelight vigil and moment of silence will take place in remembrance of members of the homeless community that have passed away without recognition.

Kidder Alive will perform Friday, March 16 at the St. Susan Center's Soup and a Song fundraiser.

JAMESTOWN – Jamestown’s St. Susan Center will continue the monthly “Soup and a Song” series of programs tonight. The fundraiser for the area’s soup kitchen combines concerts by popular local musical groups with an open-mic, starting at 6:30 this evening at the St. Susan Center. For the modest admission price of $10, attendees will be treated to an evening of fine live musical entertainment and a meal consisting of hearty soup and beverages. The program is coordinated by Trinity Guitars in Jamestown.

This is the third and final installment of the 2012 Soup and a Song program series. St. Susan Executive Director Sue Colwell says it has been a great boost for the operation.

The Kidder United Methodist Church praise band, Kidder Alive will be tonight’s featured performer. Kidder Alive features Steve Swanson, Bob Servis, Valerie Murphy, Jason Tonon, Dick Gould, Bonnie Sleight, Jim Holler and Rick LaDue.

The Soup and a Song event will run from 6 to 9:00pm this evening.
