ROCHESTER – The State Appellate Court in Rochester has overturned a decision by Judge David Foley in Chautauqua County Court involving the child abuse case of a Cassadaga man.

Foley ruled on the side of the defense that key pieces of evidence should be suppressed during the indictment process against Steven Morris, who was charged in June 2017 with first-degree criminal sexual act, a B felony; and predatory sexual assault against a child, an A-2 felony.

District Attorney Patrick Swanson’s office filed an appeal and won, based the 4th Appellate Court’s decision released on Friday.

The case will return to the county court for further proceedings on the indictment and the evidence is allowed to be included as part of the indictment.

Morris is being held in the county jail on $150,000 cash bail.

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the arrest of a Cassadaga man on charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a child.

Late last week sheriff’s deputies executed an arrest warrant issued by Chautauqua County Court on 32-year-old Steven C. Morris Jr. in the Town of Charlotte. Investigators say Morris allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a person less then eleven (11) years old in April 2017.

Morris was charged with Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree and Predatory Sexual Assault against a child. He was arraigned in Chautauqua County Court and committed to the Chautauqua County Jail on bail of $150,000 cash/$300,000 property.
