Hochul’s Job Approval Rating Up https://www.wrfalp.com/gov-hochuls-job-approval-rating-up/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=gov-hochuls-job-approval-rating-up https://www.wrfalp.com/gov-hochuls-job-approval-rating-up/#respond Wed, 25 Jan 2023 11:59:11 +0000 https://www.wrfalp.com/?p=49628 Governor Kathy Hochul‘s job approval rating is the best it’s ever been.

Siena College Poll released polling results which show Hochul’s job approval is at 56%, up from 49% in December. Her favorability rating is 48%, up a little from 45% last month.

The poll of registered New York State voters released Monday reports six of Hochul’s State of the State proposals have strong to overwhelming support – four of them bipartisan – while her proposal to allow SUNY to increase tuition is strongly opposed.

While a majority of voters think Hochul will make progress this year on her goal of creating more jobs and opportunities, a larger majority think she will not make progress on making New York more affordable, and pluralities think she will not be successful making the state safer or fixing its mental health system.

Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said the jump in approval ratings from last month is largely thanks to independent and downstate voters.

He said, “When it comes to not raising state income taxes this year, voters overwhelmingly agree with Hochul, with no difference among Democrats, Republicans and independents. And strong majorities of voters of every partisan persuasion support three of her other proposals: guaranteeing state employees up to 12 weeks of paid family leave, basing the minimum wage on the inflation rate, and giving judges more discretion to set bail for offenders accused of serious crimes.”

Siena College Poll: Governor Hochul Not Making Progress On Goals https://www.wrfalp.com/siena-college-poll-governor-hochul-not-making-progress-on-goals/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=siena-college-poll-governor-hochul-not-making-progress-on-goals https://www.wrfalp.com/siena-college-poll-governor-hochul-not-making-progress-on-goals/#respond Thu, 15 Dec 2022 11:33:53 +0000 https://www.wrfalp.com/?p=48751 Voters say Governor Kathy Hochul is not making progress on her goals, including public safety and cost of living in New York State.

A Siena College Poll released Tuesday saw Hochul’s favorability rating at 45% and her job approval rating at 49%, which is a slight dip from October.

Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said, “Hochul’s job approval and favorability ratings are above water, barely, although they edged down slightly since before Election Day, and her 43% unfavorable rating is a new high. Having just won her first full term – in the closest gubernatorial election in decades – Hochul has a chance to hit the ‘reset’ button and try and reintroduce herself to voters outside of a messy midterm transition and a fiercely fought election,”

Crime and cost of living remain the top priority for voters, according to the poll.

Greenberg added that, “Certainly, political friends and foes alike will be watching to see if Hochul tries to reset in her upcoming inaugural address and State of the State and budget messages. They’ll also be watching her actions and words in the weeks and months ahead, and whether it impacts her standing with voters.”

Siena College Poll: Democrat Kathy Hochul Leads Republican Lee Zeldin in Gubernatorial Race https://www.wrfalp.com/siena-college-poll-democrat-kathy-hochul-leads-republican-lee-zeldin-in-gubernatorial-race/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=siena-college-poll-democrat-kathy-hochul-leads-republican-lee-zeldin-in-gubernatorial-race https://www.wrfalp.com/siena-college-poll-democrat-kathy-hochul-leads-republican-lee-zeldin-in-gubernatorial-race/#respond Wed, 03 Aug 2022 10:53:51 +0000 https://www.wrfalp.com/?p=45910 A Siena College Poll has Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul with a 14-point leader over Republican Representative Lee Zeldin.

Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said Hochul and Zeldin are both holding their parties, as she leads among Democrats 81-12% and he leads among Republicans 84-12%. Independents narrowly tilt toward Zeldin, 44-42%. Greenburg said Hochul’s solid lead over Zeldin is a reflection of the Democrats’ large enrollment advantage in New York.

Greenburg said Hochul has a 46-41% favorability rating this month among likely voters, compared to 46-37% in June among registered voters.

Hochul has a 52% job approval rating, the first time Siena has asked Hochul’s ‘job approval,’ replacing the previous ‘job performance’ question. Zeldin now has a 31% favorability rating, with 41% either having no opinion or never heard of him, up from 21% in June.

Greenburg said, “Hochul continues to be more well known and liked than Zeldin, although she has not been able to raise her favorability rating over 46%. It has been between 42% and 46% every month since September, her second month as governor. Zeldin’s name recognition certainly got a boost from his primary victory and for now both being the focus of Republican energy and the target of Democrats.”

He added that, “Fourteen weeks is a long time in politics, and we know most voters don’t really begin to focus on elections till after Labor Day. Still, Hochul has an early – but certainly not insurmountable – lead.”

Siena College Poll: Governor Hochul has 42% Favorability https://www.wrfalp.com/siena-college-poll-governor-hochul-has-42-favorability/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=siena-college-poll-governor-hochul-has-42-favorability https://www.wrfalp.com/siena-college-poll-governor-hochul-has-42-favorability/#respond Wed, 15 Sep 2021 10:56:26 +0000 https://www.wrfalp.com/?p=40048 A Siena College Poll found Governor Kathy Hochul currently has a 42% favorability with voters. 41% of registered voters polled said either they don’t know Hochul or don’t know enough about her to have an opinion.
52% of voters polled say Hochul has a more collaborative approach to government leadership than her predecessor, and 74% say it’s exciting to have New York’s first woman governor. Strong majorities of voters think Hochul will be successful in ensuring a safe transition to in-person public education, leading the state through natural disasters and controlling the spread of COVID.

Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said while Hochul is still largely unknown to a “wide swath of New Yorkers,” she “begins her tenure with a lot of good will from voters.”

The polling also found 69% support public schools requiring teachers and staff to be vaccinated and 78% support school districts requiring teachers, staff and students to wear masks.
