Jamestown Police have arrested three men from Buffalo following a shooting on Jefferson Street Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the suspects in two separate vehicles exchanged gunfire on Jefferson near West Sixth Street before driving off in separate directions.

An investigation led to a vehicle stop on Pershing Avenue by Baker Street where one passenger ran away from the car. Jamestown Police received a citizen tip about a person running through backyards. With the help of the State Police K9 unit, 21-year old Joel Coleman was found hiding in a garage on Summit Avenue. Police also recovered a loaded handgun on Norton Avenue from one of the yards Coleman had been seen running through. He was arrested on weapons and drug charges.

One of the cars police say was involved in the shooting was also located on Summit Avenue with a bullet hole in its hood.

Police also found two loaded pistols in the vehicle stop on Pershing. 23-year old Allen Jackson and 24-year old Arkeil Gaskin were arrested on weapons charges. Charges against a third suspect are pending.

[ORIGINAL REPORT] JAMESTOWN, NY – (Oct. 12, 2017 – 5:08pm) Jamestown Police are asking for the public’s help in providing information related to a shooting incident that took place Thursday afternoon, leaving one person injured.

Jamestown Police received information on a report of shooting that had occurred at 95 Liberty St. at about 3 p.m. Thursday [Oct. 12, 2017]. Police say the incident involved a male victim was shot in the forearm inside an apartment at the location by an unknown suspect.

The suspect did flee the location with another male. Investigators are advising that the two males that fled are believed to be black males wearing dark clothing and hats.

One subject was believed to be wearing red or purple colored jeans. Investigators have obtained a still photo from a video at the location that is believed to be the suspects.

Anyone who may know the identity of the two subjects shown in the still photo released is asked to contact the Jamestown Police at 483-7536 or they can leave an anonymous tip at 483 TIPS (8477) or via the Tips 411 App.

All calls and tips are kept strictly confidential. The male victim was transported to UPMC Hospital where he is currently being treated. The injury is not believed to be life threatening.

Thursday night, police sent out an update, with Capt. Robert Samuelson stating, “It’s important to note that this incident was not a random act of violence. The location and victim appear to have been targeted in this incident.”

According to a media release sent out Saturday morning, deputies responded to a reported fight at 64 Central Ave., Brocton at 11:13 p.m. Friday. Police say that earlier, three subjects had arrived at this residence and subsequently got into an altercation with two residents living at the residence. During the altercation, one of the three subjects was allegedly shot by a person living at the Central Ave. address. The other two subjects ran from the residence after the shooting.

Investigators say the two suspects, 35 year-old Lamar Jontill Matthews of Portland and39 year-old Shane T. Wynn-Hopkins of Meadville, PA were subsequently located in the Village of Westfield, and subsequently arrested for Attempted Robbery 3rd Degree. Wynn-Hopkins faces an additional charge of Burglary in the 2nd Degree. The two were arraigned and sent to the county jail on $50,000 cash bail.

Police are not releasing the name of the third subject who was shot. They say he was treated at the scene by Brocton Fire Rescue and Portland Fire Rescue and then Star Flighted to Erie County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the two residents are not being released. No other charges were filed but the investigation is continuing.

According to Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, investigators have located a shotgun that they say was used in the shooting. Police had already arrested two men allegedly involved in the incident and have charged each one with 1st degree assault. However, police say they are withholding the names of the suspects to protect the integrity of the case, as the investigation is ongoing and additional charges will likely be filed. Both are currently being held without bail.

Meanwhile the victim of the incident, who’s name is not being released by authorities, is still listed in critical condition at ECMC in Buffalo as of 3:40 p.m. Monday.

According to police, the incident happened just before 6 p.m. when a vehicle drove up to the  victim as he walked out of the store. The victim was then shot several times at close range by an occupant within the vehicle. The vehicle then left the scene and drove north on Washington St. towards Fluvanna Ave.

Police immediately sent out a report, asking for the public’s help in finding the vehicle and by Saturday it was found abandoned on the South Side of town. A further investigation led police to charging two individuals in connection to the shooting.

JAMESTOWN, NY – Jamestown Police are Investigating a shooting incident that took place Thursday morning on Mckinley Ave. at Prospect St. According to Jamestown Police Capt. Robert Samuelson, an unidentified male victim reports that he was walking when he was shot in the shoulder by an unknown shooter at about 5 a.m. Thursday.

The victim was able to walk back to his home where he was taken to WCA hospital by a relative and was treated for his injury. The victim’s injuries are not considered to be life threatening.

Jamestown police say 29 year-old Demetrius McBride was arrested Saturday following an investigation into a shooting that took place at 177 Barrows St. at about 11:30 a.m. It’s believed that McBride and an unidentified individual had a disagreement that resulted in McBride using a shotgun to fire two shots at the person. One person was hit in the leg and taken to WCA for treatment.

Police say that when they arrived on the scene to investigate, McBride ran into a residence at 172 Barrows St. However, he eventually gave himself up to officers and was taken into custody. McBride was arrested on charges related to assault, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm. He was arraigned and sent to the county jail.

JACKSON, TENN – The man wanted in connection to a shooting that took place the night of Sept. 2 in Jamestown is now in police custody.

Jamestown city police say 20 year-old Trenton Grant was placed into custody by federal officials in Jackson, Tenn. In addition, police also say that 20 year-old Isaiah Pearson was located and placed into custody.

Both Grant and Pearson were also wanted in connection to an August burglary in Lakewood. It is believed the the gun used in the shooting was stolen from a private residence during the burglary.

Both men are being held in a Madison County, Tennessee jail until they can be extradited back to New York to answer to both local and federal charges.

The shooting took place just before 7:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Appleyard Terrace housing complex on East Second St. Police say Grant allegedly fired multiple shots from a handgun at a victim whose name is not being released. The victim is currently recovering from two gunshot wounds. Grant then fled the scene, leading to an extensive manhunt by local, state and federal law enforcement. Reports say one of the two men had relatives in Tennessee, explaining why they were located there over the weekend.

JAMESTOWN – City police have released the name of the suspect connected to a shooting that took place Tuesday night, Sept. 2 on East Second St. behind the Appleyard Terrace housing complex.

According to a media release sent out late Wednesday morning by JPD Captain Robert Samuelson, police are trying to locate 20 year old Trenton L. Grant (pictured right), who is wanted for questioning in the shooting that took place at 7:30 p.m. at Appleyard Terrace.

According to police, it is believed that Grant is still in the Jamestown area and is considered armed and dangerous. Charges against Grant for the shooting of the unidentified victim are pending. The victim was sent to UPMC Hamot in Erie for treatment of two gunshot wounds. His status is unknown at this time.

Police also say that Grant is wanted by the Lakewood-Busti Police for a separate burglary that occurred last week, Aug. 28,  in Lakewood where a handgun, safe, lap-top computer and jewelry were taken from a home. Lakewood-Busti Police were able to recover the safe and the lap-top computer at two separate locations in Jamestown.

The handgun that was taken from the residence in Lakewood was recovered by the Jamestown Police Department near the scene of the shooting on Tuesday night and is believed to be the weapon that was used to shoot the victim as he walked behind Appleyard Terrace.

Also wanted in connection to the burglary in Lakewood is 20 year-0ld Isaiah Pearson (pictured left). Police say both Grant and Pearson currently have outstanding warrants for burglary and grand larceny and are possibly together attempting to avoid apprehension from authorities.

According to Jamestown city police, the incident took place just before 7:30 p.m. at the Appleyard Terrace housing complex on East Second St. when an unknown black male fired multiple shots from a handgun at another unidentified man. The incident took place as the victim walked in an open area behind the housing complex. The victim was struck twice and sent to WCA hospital and later transported to UPMC Hamot in Erie to undergo surgery. His condition is not know at this time.

Following an investigation police did find a pistol near in the backyard of an apartment at 564 E. Second St. – less than 100 yards from the scene of the shooting.
