The new map recommended by the Jamestown Reapportionment Commission has few changes in ward boundaries.

Council also will vote to spend $249,610 to purchase a new excavator for the Department of Public Works. The funding for the equipment is coming from CHIPS (Consolidated Highway Improvement Program)

A resolution to allocate an additional $21,400 for the replacement of Fire Station #4’s roof also will be voted on. The funding will come from American Rescue Plan monies. The project initially was allocated $100,000 in ARPA funding, which was approved in June.

Council also will vote to accept a donation of $2,000 from Rand Machine Products to purchase smoke alarms for the Jamestown Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Outreach Program. All smoke alarms purchased from this donation would be made available through the Fire Department’s existing distribution policy.

And Council will vote on a local law authorizing the use of video conferencing for meetings of public bodies. This law will formally codify the ability for the City to livestream public meetings and to allow council members to attend meetings remotely, if needed.

Council will hold a brief work session at 7:00 p.m. in the fourth floor Police Training Room with the voting session taking place at 7:30 p.m. in the second floor Council Chambers in City Hall. All meetings are open to the public with the voting session being livestreamed at jamestownny.gov.

City of Jamestown 2022 3rd Quarter Sales Tax Receipt Information

City of Jamestown sales tax receipts are down 2.1% for the third quarter of 2022 compared with the same quarter in 2021.

Jamestown received $2,206,455, which is $48,207 less than in 2021. Currently, the city has received 74.7% of its budgeted amount of sales tax for 2022. Comptroller John Sellstrom is expected to give a full report at tonight’s City Council work session.

City Council also will review a resolution to use $68,895 in American Rescue Plan funds to replace 20 Cisco switches. The switches would be purchased from SHI International. Information Technology Director Mark Dean said the purchase price represents a 76% discount over retail price.

A resolution to use $21,400 from the contingency fund to replace Fire Station #4 roof also will be reviewed. The project originally was funded using $100,000 in ARP funds back in June. If this additional funding is approved, that will leave $111,568 in the city’s contingency fund.

Council will also review the donation of $2,000 by Rand Machine to purchase smoke alarms for the Jamestown Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Outreach Program.

Other items on tonight’s work session agenda include the discussion of the Senior Home Improvement Incentive Program application status as well as an update on grants.

The Housing Committee will meet at 6:45 p.m. with other committees meeting at 7:00 p.m. The full work session will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Police Training Room on the fourth floor of City Hall. The meetings are open to the public with the work session also being livestreamed on jamestownny.gov.

Earlier this month County Executive Greg Edwards and County Planning Director Bill Daly announced the AL Tech Loan to Rand Machine Products Inc. in Falconer.

The money will go to help of with expansion of the facility on Allen Street so it can house a new CNC Machine in the plant, which will allow Rand Machine Products to work on very large products.  The total project cost was more than $4,600,000.

Rand Machine Products is a custom contract manufacturing service. They machine and assemble a variety of products per customer drawings, such as railroad, pipeline couplings, defense work, mining industry, hospital and medical equipment and decorative brass hardware. The company currently employs 104 full-time employees. The project will create 10 new jobs at Rand.

The business has been in operation since 1949, with the Ruhlman family managing it since 1980.
