Lakewood-Busti Police were called to Walmart to respond to an alleged theft of merchandise. Officers investigated the incident and eventually located the suspect – identified as 38-year-old Shawn Garrett of Jamestown. Garrett is accused of allegedly stealing a backpack from the store and also violating a trespass warning from the store, making the crime a burglary. Police say while in custody, Garrett allegedly intentionally wiped his sweaty forehead on an officer’s bare arm. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Garrett was charged with 3rd degree menacing. He was also in possession of a hypodermic needle and did not have a needle exchange card.

Garrett was also charged with 3rd degree burglary, petit larceny, and criminally possessing hypodermic needle and sent to the county jail for arraignment.

CASSADAGA – A Cassadaga man is in the County Jail after police say he fired several rounds from a gun inside a home, nearly striking several people.

Sheriff Deputies arrested 43-year-old Elliott Dones after an investigation found that Dones allegedly “engaged in a confrontation with several other individuals at a residence on Tarbox Road and then fired several rounds from a long gun in close proximity to others inside the home.

Dones fled the scene prior to deputies arrival and an arrest warrant for reckless endangerment 1st, criminal possession of a weapon 2nd, and menacing 2nd was issued out of the Town of Arkwright Court.  He was taken into custody a short time later, arraigned, and then sent to the county jail on $250,000 cash bail.

JAMESTOWN – A man who was considered a person of interest in the death of an 18-month-old more than four years ago is back behind bars for violating probation.

Jamestown Police say 34 year-old Tyler Perez was charged Thursday night with second-degree menacing after allegedly threatening a woman during an incident at 408 Willard St.

During processing, police learned Perez was on probation in Pennsylvania for a prior weapons possession arrest and conviction and wasn’t allowed outside of the state.

Before his arrest in Jamestown and extradition to Pennsylvania in 2014, Perez had been named by Jamestown police as a person of interest in the death of 18-month-old Nayla Hodnett. After her death, an autopsy showed signs of internal blunt force trauma.

Perez was never charged in connection to the Hodnett homicide investigation and it remains unsolved.

JAMESTOWN – A 19-year-old Jamestown man has been charged for allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint during a pursuit last Friday night.

According to Jamestown Police, Jordan Alexander has been charged with unlawful imprisonment, reckless endangerment and menacing after police attempted to stop the car he was a passenger in around 9:30 p.m. on Prather Avenue in Jamestown.

The female driver of the car did not stop and was reportedly being held at gunpoint during the ensuing pursuit. The chase took place throughout the greater Jamestown area, including into the village of Falconer as well as onto Interstate 86.

Alexander was eventually taken into custody without any injuries being reported.  It was found he was also reportedly wanted for multiple armed robberies in Buffalo.

Early Saturday morning, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to The House that Jack Built at 3041 Rt. 430 in the Town of Ellery for a report of a male with a weapon.

After a brief investigation it was found that 46 year-old Blake Davis of Bemus Point was involved in a physical altercation and pulled out a pistol and pointed it at several people threatening to use it.

Davis then fled the scene and was located shortly after at WCA hospital.

Davis was treated for minor injuries and was taken into custody and charged with 3 counts of Menacing in the second degree, sex abuse in the third degree, harassment in the second degree.

Davis was taken in front of a Town of Ellery Judge and sent to CCJ on bail.

Members of the Jamestown Police Department were called to a home on Chandler St. just before 9 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person with a weapon. An investigation found that 40 year-old Grant Monroe, Jr.  had allegedly gone to the victim’s house and threatened her with a paintball gun. Monroe also had an order of protection to stay away from the victim.

Monroe was arrested on five felony counts, including three counts of criminal contempt, one count of aggravated family offense, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.  He was also charged with menacing. Monroe was arrested and sent to the city jail to await arraignment.

JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown man faces kidnapping and weapons charges following his arrest by city police.

Jamestown Police say on or about Saturday, March 12, a male victim reported that he was held against his will for a period of time at 11 Norwood Ave.

During his confinement, the victim claimed he was allegedly mentally and verbally abused by 39 year-old Mark Diers, Jr., who reportedly lived at the address. Diers is also accused of using a firearm during the incident and threatening to use it against the victim.

During the investigation a search warrant was executed at 11 Norwood Ave., at which time police reportedly found illegal weapons, drug paraphernalia, and unsanitary/deplorable living conditions. Also found within the residence was several animals, some of which were illegal to possess.

Subsequent to the search the residence was condemned by the Jamestown Department of Development and the illegal animals were seized by NYS Environmental Conservation.

Diers was charged with: Kidnapping 2nd, Menacing 2nd, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd, Reckless Endangerment 1st, Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (2cts),Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2cts).

The subject was taken into custody without incident and brought to the city jail pending arraignment. The investigation is continuing with further charges possible.

Jamestown police were called to a home on Newland Ave. at midnight, Jan. 2, and learned that 39 year-old Nicholas Alianell had allegedly threatened another person with a knife while two children were present. In addition he allegedly damaged a door in the apartment. Police learned there was an order of protection against Alianell to stay away from the children.  He was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, along with criminal mischief, menacing, criminal contempt, and aggravated family offense.

Alianell was taken to the city jail and will be arraigned later in city court.

Jamestown Police say 48-year-0ld Brian Hilton of Jamestown allegedly threatened an individual with a knife at about 3:10 p.m. in an area of Foote Ave.  After talking with the victim police were able to identify and locate Hilton. He was arrested on a charge of 2nd degree menacing and criminal possession of a weapon and was sent to the city jail to await arraignment.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to Marks Corners Rd. at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a motor vehicle accident with a male pointing a shotgun at another person.

On arrival deputies found 34 year-old Nathan Babcock of Clymer was allegedly waving and pointing a shotgun towards individuals involved in the accident. Babcock was order to drop the weapon and was taken into custody without incident.

After a brief investigation it was found that Babcock was chasing after a vehicle and caused the accident. He then became upset and got a shotgun out of his vehicle and hit two males in the face with it, and then fired one round into the air.

Babcock held the males at gunpoint until deputies arrived. He was charged with assault, menacing, and harassment. Following arraignment he was sent to the county jail on $15,000 cash bail.

In addition to Babcock’s arrest, police say 32 year-old Jeremy Cross of Corry, PA – who was operating the other vehicle – was allegedly driving it while intoxicated. He was arrested on related charges and will appear in court on a later date.
