Kenneth Nellis III

JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting that an officer with the Jamestown Police Department charged in March with criminal possession of a forged instrument has resigned.

Jamestown police Chief Harry Snellings told the Post-Journal that 40-year-old Kenneth V. Nellis III resigned May 30 and is no longer with the department.

Nellis was taken into custody March 11 following a domestic violence complaint. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony, following an investigation and placed on administrative leave. A month after his arrest, the Jamestown School Board terminated Nellis’ employment as a school resource officer.

The report says Nellis allegedly possessed a forged and fictitious supporting deposition document with the intent to deceive another person.

On Wednesday, Nellis agreed to an offer by the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office for an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal.

JAMESTOWN – City police have arrested one of their own following a criminal forgery investigation.

Jamestown police captain Robert Samuelson sent out a media release Tuesday saying 40 year-old Kenneth Nellis III of Jamestown was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a Class D felony. The Jamestown Post-Journal has identified Nellis as a member of the Police Department.

According to the Post-Journal, Chief Harry Snellings said the charge comes after a domestic violence complaint was made against Nellis. No other details were made available.

Nellis has been a member of the Jamestown Police Department for four years. He was arraigned in city court and bail was set at $2,000.

An order of protection was also issued during Nellis’ court appearance in addition to the case being moved from city court to another jurisdiction.
