JAMESTOWN – On Thursday, February 27th, St. Susan Center will host its second Soup and a Song of this winter series. A program combining popular local musical groups and a great meal. Entertainment for the evening will be students from Infinity Visual and Performing Arts. To preview the event, WRFA’s Jason Sample recently talked with St. Susan executive director Bonnie Scott-Sleight and event organizer Jim Holler.
For the modest admission price of $10, guests will be treated not only to an evening of live musical entertainment, but a meal consisting of five different specialty soups created by the culinary team at St. Susan Center. Guests will have their choice of various breads, crackers, desserts, and beverages.
Jim Holler, who has worked closely since the start of a Soup and a Song says, “I am so pleased to help bring together two great organizations that I have a long history with. Having the students and instructors of Infinity Visual and Preforming Arts hop on board with a fundraiser for St Susan Center is the definition of community spirit. Please come out and join us for this very special evening.”
“We are excited to have Infinity Visual and Performing Arts playing at this year’s Soup and a Song,” said Scott-Sleight.
The Soup and a Song events are held at St. Susan Center located at 31 Water Street in Jamestown. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by local band members of Frewsburg’s Trinity United Methodist Church. Jim Holler, who has worked closely since the fruition of a Soup and a Song, and Executive Director Bonny Scott-Sleight invite everyone out for night of listening pleasure, and hot soup on a cold night. “We are excited to have Trinity UMC playing at this year’s Soup and a Song” states, Ms. Scott-Sleight.

The interview focuses on Piorkowski’s upcoming performance on the Trinity Guitars Back Room Radio Hour, slated for Thursday, Feb. 18 at Trinity Guitars and hosted by Bill Ward.

Jim offers details for the 2015-16 season of the Back Room Radio Hour, which premieres Thursday, Sept. 10 at Trinity Guitars. Keeping with tradition, the show will feature a local non-profit service organization. This month the organization is Community Helping Hands, with Executive Director Amy Rohler providing details about the organization as well as an upcoming fundraiser set for the first week of November.
The live performance for the September 2015 edition of the Back Room Radio Hour will take place at Trinity Guitars (800 West Third Street, Jamestown NY) at 7 p.m. Thursday. It will be recorded and broadcast on WRFA Monday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
This month’s featured performers include The Elektra Kings and Trinity student Abby Beach. As always, the show is hosted by Bill Ward.

WRFA Public Affairs Director Jason Sample talks with Fredonia Music Professor James Piorkowski and Trinity Guitars’ Jim Holler about an upcoming performance by the Fredonia Guitar Quartert.
The Quartet will be performing at a special taping of Trinity Guitars’ Back Room Radio Hour at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts in Jamestown, NY on Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 PM.
The program will consist of works by Johann Pachelbel, Roland Dyens, Stephen Funk Pearson, and Antonín Dvořák.
The members of the Fredonia Guitar Quartet are:
– Matthew Downey, a master’s degree student in Music Performance, is from Otego, NY.
– Matthew Kingsley, a senior Music Performance major, is from Lockport, PA.
– Kieran Franzone, a senior Music Performance major, is from Ronkonkoma, NY.
– Alexander Rockwell, a senior Music Performance major, is from Ballston Spa, NY
This concert will be a special edition of the Trinity Guitars Back Room Radio Hour and will air on Monday, March 16 on WRFA 107.9FM and will be streamed on www.wrfalp.com.
Of special interest is the fact that all four guitars have been built here in Jamestown by luthier Jim Holler. He will also have additional Holler-built guitars on display that evening. “It is so exciting to have the Fredonia Guitar Quartet in a return engagment at Infinity; they are all playng guitar I have built. It is like a family reunion,” Holler said.

WRFA public affairs director Jason Sample and Trinity Guitar owner/operator Jim Holler talk with Jay Duncan, creator of the Duncan Africa Society – a unique, registered charity in Canada whose purpose is to alleviate poverty.
The vision was born from a combination of master luthier Jay Duncan’s desire to bring an affordable version of his instruments to a larger market and his world view that reflects God’s sense of justice and compassion for the poor and suffering. His dream resulted in the creation of the DuncanAfrica Society in April 2005.

The fourth “Soup And Song” fundraiser will feature the Bill Ward Band, Amanda Barton and Infinity Visual and Performing Arts students and will take place starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday at St. Susan Center, located at 31 Water St. in Jamestown. Soups from the Dinner Bell in Frewsburg will be featured at the event.
Tickets to the event are $10, and include three soup tickets, a beverage ticket and cake or cookies. The fundraiser is organized by Jim Holler of Trinity Guitars and will be hosted by yours truly.
