JAMESTOWN – The YWCA of Jamestown has a new executive director.

The organization announced Thursday that the board has appointed Jacqueline Chiarot Phelps as the new ED. She will replace longtime director Beth Oakes, who now serves as ED of the Child Advocacy Program.

Phelps most recently served as the Director of Constituent Services for Congressman Tom Reed.

Phelps is a member of the Greater Jamestown AM Rotary Club and serves on the Jamestown Young Professionals and Jamestown Center City Development Corporation boards.

The YWCA of Jamestown is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

JAMESTOWN – The fourth and final installment of Jamestown Young Professional’s (JYP) fall speaker series will focus on the Jamestown BPU and energy consumption. The presentation will take place on Oct. 24 at the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Interested individuals can enter through the customer service entrance. This event is free to attend and open to the community.

The speakers will discuss energy services and opportunities for Jamestown. Speakers include: General Manager David Leathers, Energy and Gas Resources Manager David Gustafson, Electrical Engineer Kristofor Sellstrom, Energy Efficiency Coordinator Dan Reynolds, and Mechanical Engineer James Samonsky.

“I am impressed with the presentation schedule the Young Professionals group has put together this Fall, and am very excited about this collection of educated, talented, and motivated individuals dedicating their time to visit the Jamestown BPU,” said Dave Leathers, General Manager.  “Gaining additional knowledge of what is occurring in our local area, and then using that information to foster individual and group involvement, only makes our City and local region a more attractive place for people to visit and live.  The BPU Staff certainly looks forward to meeting with the JYP representatives to share important information about the City utilities; our operations, challenges, and contributions.”

The presentation will consist of a variety of topics, including: power trends and public policy, energy efficient programs and opportunities, a general outline of power generation and distribution, and a possible tour of the power plant if site conditions permit. JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Young Professionals will host a panel discussion Tuesday at the Robert H. Jackson Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The presentation will focus on the future goals in business and economic growth for Chautauqua County.

Moderator Matthew Mazgaj will lead a team of panelists to discuss future plans and projects across the county. Panelists include: County Executive Vince Horrigan, President of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce Todd Tranum, Director of Planning and Development for the City of Dunkirk Rebeca Yanus, President of Jamestown Electroplating Chase Churchill, and Executive Director of Panama Rocks Jonathan Weston.

The discussion is the third installment of JYP’s fall speaker series and is free and open to the community.

JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Young Professionals is announcing a one-of-a-kind chance to get to know the candidates for county executive as part of a new lecture series.

The group comprised of local professionals under 40 is hosting a series of four lecture events focused on leadership and young professionals in the Jamestown area this fall. The first event will feature the two candidates running for county executive, Mike Ferguson and George Borrello, in a non-partisan, meet-the-candidates setting.

The event will be held at the Robert H. Jackson Center from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

“We want to encourage all people to attend,” said Amber Grekalski, Jamestown Young Professionals Board of Directors co-chair. “Community events are the new focus of the board, and we’re excited to kick-off this initiative with this lecture series.”

2017 Chautauqua County Executive Candidates – Democrat Michael Ferguson (let) and Republican George Borrello

Borrello is currently a Chautauqua County legislator. He was born and raised in Silver Creek and Fredonia. Borrello is a graduate of Purdue University, and has spent much of his life as a businessman and an entrepreneur.

Ferguson is also a life-long Western New Yorker and has lived in Chautauqua County for 28 years. He was born in Buffalo, and was once a professional touring racquetball pro. Ferguson has also worked as the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena director and general manager, as well as general manager of the Jamestown Jammers and other organizations.

The candidates will be talking about their business vision, how they plan to keep young professionals in the area and give information on their backgrounds, specifically during their young professional lives. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers at the end of the program.

The event is sponsored by Phillips Lytle LLP. Matthew Mazgaj, Phillips Lytle attorney in Jamestown and JYP Board of Directors member, will be the master of ceremonies.

The Jamestown Young Professionals group is proud to offer challenging, informative programming that invites young professionals to get involved in the community and stay educated on important issues.

JYP will continue to offer such programming in the future, and will focus on providing creative professional development, learning and networking opportunities that are valuable and worthwhile to the up-and-coming leaders in the Jamestown area.

The upcoming lectures in the series include:

– “Invest In Your Future,” on Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Moonbrook Country Club.

– “Local Economy and Business Development,” on Oct. 10 at the Robert H. Jackson Center at 5:30 p.m.
