Jamestown Police say they tried to stop 39-year-old Larry Hicks shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the area of Arnold and Maple streets. Hicks is accused of driving away from the scene and leading police on a subsequent chase that took them through Jamestown, Carroll, Russell, and Sugar Grove The chase continued back across the state Line and into the Town of Busti, where officers with the Lakewood-Busti police department deployed spike trips. That forced Hicks’ vehicle to stop and he was taking into custody.

Hicks was charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing police in a motor vehicle, obstructing governmental administration, reckless driving, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, along with various other traffic violations. He was also charged with violating his parole.
Hicks is awaiting arraignment in the city jail.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. Saturday when members of the Jamestown Police Department were alerted to two suspicious men in a maroon pickup trick in the area of Palmer Street and Highland Avenue.

Police say the driver, identified as 24-year-old Cody Dickerson of Jamestown, took off at a high rate of speed after officers tried to stop the vehicle.

A pursuit then took place that resulted in two crashes with other bystander vehicles, before finally ending on Falconer-Frewsburg Road after the truck stopped functioning due to heavy damage.

Both Dickerson and a passenger – identified as 43-year-old Steven Blankenship, then fled into a wooded area but were eventually taken into custody.

Dickerson was charged with 26 vehicle and traffic violations, along with other charges for disobeying and fleeing from police.
Blankenship was charged with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Jamestown Police were assisted by the New York State police, along with officers from the Town of Ellicott, Lakewood-Busti, and the Sheriff’s Office.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says it received a request for assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police with a vehicle pursuit which had entered into New York in the vicinity of Findley Lake.

The vehicle operator – identified as 51 year-old Marshall Young of Erie – reportedly lost control traveling east on Rt. 430 while traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle slid sideways into the westbound lane leaving the roadway and entered a private driveway. The vehicle damaged a gate at the end of the driveway and then continued down the private driveway and entered the lawn area damaging it.

Young finally stopped the vehicle once he came to the edge of a wooded area. He was then taken into custody.

Upon investigating police learned Young was wanted out of Erie County, Pennsylvania for failure to appear.

The subject was arraigned in Mina court on being a fugitive from justice along with various other charges. Additional charges are pending in New York along with various Pennsylvania charges which will be forthcoming.

Jamestown police charged 45-year-old Daniel Babyak of Falconer with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation, switched plates and other numerous traffic violations.

Police say they tried to pull over Babyak – who was driving a minivan -around 3:20 a.m. Thursday after he was spotted not having a front license plate while driving down Steele Street. When officers tried to stop Babyak he allegedly fled the scene and a chase occurred on the west side of the city, eventually ending in West Ellicott.

Babyak was then charged and taken into custody.

Another city man was also arrested on similar charges after a chase took place late Thursday afternoon in the city.

Police say 26-year-old Matthew William Buck faces several charges after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle around 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police received a report of a stolen vehicle being driven near Foote Avenue and Water Street. When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, Buck reportedly fled at high speed throughout the city, eventually driving into the backyard of a home on W. Eighth St. and into a tree. Buck then reportedly ran away before police officers were able to catch him near the scene.

Buck faces multiple charges, including unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and four counts of reckless driving. Buck was also allegedly found in possession of heroin and was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Jamestown police say 38-year-old Joey Weise allegedly committed a traffic violation around 4:40 p.m. on Washington and West Third streets. When officers tried to stop Weise, he reportedly fled at a high rate of speed.

The chase continued for a short time until police called it off due to high speeds. However, police later received a call from a resident in West Ellicott who saw an individual hiding a motorcycle in a nearby woods.

Weise was located and taken into custody and faces multiple charges.

According to a report from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office, deputies observed a motorcycle traveling at 100 mph while heading east on Fairmount Ave. in the town of Ellicott around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies attempted to stop the motorcycle which then failed to comply. The operator, identified as 28 year old Dustin Pickett of Lakewood, continued fleeing from deputies and led them on vehicle pursuit into the Town of Busti.
Pickett eventually crashed the motorcycle on W. Summit St. and surrendered to deputies and officers from Lakewood Busti Police dept.

He faces multiple charges, including fleeing from police, speeding, reckless operation, and DWI.
Pickett was arraigned in the Town of Busti court and sent to the county jail.

City police say at about 2:30 a.m. Monday, officers were patrolling the area of Grant St. when they saw a man identified as 44 year-old Norman Lindell Jr., who was wanted on a felony warrant in Jamestown.

Police say Lindell allegedly refused to comply with officers and fled the scene, leading officers on a high speed chase through several residential areas, until he crashed his SUV into a cement pillar and fence belonging to Lakeview Cemetery.

Lindell then left the vehicle and fled on food, but was eventually located.  He was taken to the city jail, where a quantify of crack cocaine was found on his possession.

He faces multiple charges related to the chase and drug possession. City police received help from the Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the Ellicott, Lakewood and New York State police Departments and their respective K-9 Units.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 36 year-old Michael Newman was driving in Jamestown around midnight and allegedly made several traffic violations. Newman failed to stop for police and allegedly fled the area, leaving the city and heading west toward the town of Ellicott. His vehicle eventually crashed on West Duquesne Street, between Alleghany and Dunham avenues.

Newman was taken into custody and charged with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to comply with police, reckless driving, and several other violations. He was arraigned and sent to the county jail without bail.

Joining sheriff’s deputies in the pursuit were officers from the State Police, Ellicott Police Department and Lakewood-Busti Police Department.

Jamestown Police say 35 year-old Mathew Haskins was allegedly speeding down E. 2nd St. in the city shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Haskins allegedly failed to stop and instead continued at a high rate of speed down Crescent St. and eventually crashing near a storage vehicle on River Street. He then allegedly left the vehicle and hid from officers but was eventually located.

Haskins was then arrested on several related charges and sent to the city jail to await arraignment.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 31 year-old Austin Slater led police on a pursuit through the towns of Ellicott, Ellington, Gerry and Poland.

The say the incident began just before 2 p.m. Friday when deputies were notified of a wanted person operating a vehicle on North Main St. Ext. in the town of Ellicott. When officers located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, the driver – later identified as Slater, led them on a vehicle pursuit.

Sheriff’s deputies were eventually able to use spike strips on Gerry-Levant Rd in the Town of Ellicott to render the vehicle disabled. At that point it went into a field and Slater then allegedly ran into a wooded area. After a large scale search Slater was found hiding in dense brush.

Slater was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants and additionally arrested on several other charges, including Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd, Obstructing Government Administration 2nd, Reckless Driving, Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd, Operating without an interlock device, and speeding.
