JAMESTOWN – The City Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department has scheduled the 71st Annual Easter Egg Hunt to take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 31 at Allen Park. This free event will be held inside the Allen Park Ice Rink due to park and weather conditions.

Children will be allowed into the hunt one age group at a time, starting at 10:30 a.m. Once a group has found all the eggs hidden for their hunt, volunteers will hide the eggs for the next group. The first age group allowed in will be children 4 and under, followed by children ages 5 to 8 years, and finally children 9 to 12 years of age.

Over 3,000 eggs filled with candy will be “hidden” in the Hunt area. In addition, 33 toy prize eggs and two Gold and two Silver eggs will be hidden. The two Gold egg prizes will be bicycles donated by Sertoma Club of Jamestown and a donation in Memory of Mark Hess. The two Silver egg prizes are also donations in Memory of Mark Hess. The Child Advocacy Program is donating 3 stuffed animals to be given away as prizes as well. The Easter Bunny will arrive by fire truck to kick off the event.

Also assisting in the sponsorship of the Hunt is the Sertoma Club of Jamestown, Allen Park Women’s Club, Kendall Club, Jamestown Bowling Company, McDonald’s, Media One Group, and Esquire Cleaners. Girl Scout Troop 20029 helped fill all 3,000 eggs with candy.

Easter is this weekend and several local communities have Easter Egg Hunts and other events scheduled to take place.

JAMESTOWN

The City of Jamestown Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department has scheduled the 70th Annual Easter Egg Hunt to take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Allen Park.

The free event will be held in the upper level of the park where the playgrounds are located. That area will then be divided into three separate age groups.

Over 3,000 eggs filled with candy will be “hidden” in the Hunt area. In addition, 36 toy prize eggs and two Gold and two Silver eggs will be hidden.  The Silver and Gold egg prizes are sponsored through a donation in memoriam of Mark Hess. The Child Advocacy Program is donating 6 stuffed animals to be given away as prizes as well. The Easter Bunny will arrive by fire truck to kick off the event.

There is a chance for rain in the forecast, and an announcement will be made by 9 a.m., Saturday if inclement weather necessitates changing the location to inside the former Allen Park Ice Rink.

The location change announcement will be posted to the city website at www.jamestownny.net, as well as the Parks & Rec Facebook and Twitter pages.

LAKEWOOD

An Easter Egg Hunt will take place at the Chautauqua Mall starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Children divided into four age groups: 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The event is part of the Autism Awareness Event coordinated by the mall and The Resource Center, which is taking place from 10 a.m. to noon.

CELORON

The Village of Celoron will hold its annual Children’s Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday in the Lucille Ball Memorial Park.  One bike will be given away in each of the four age categories.

Registration begins at 9 a.m.  The Easter Bunny will arrive on a Celoron Hose Company No. 1 Fire Truck at 9:30 a.m.  The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10. a.m.  A rain date has been scheduled for April 22.

ASHVILLE

The Chautauqua Children’s Safety Education Village is hosting its 7th Annual Easter Carnival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Safety Village, located at 2695 Rt 394 in Ashville (next to BOCES).

JAMESTOWN – The City of Jamestown’s 69th Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be dedicated to local radio legend Jim Roselle, who died Wednesday at the age of 89.

Mayor Sam Teresi said that During his final days, Roselle vowed that he was going to attend and broadcast from Saturday’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at Allen Park. Teresi said that while Jim can’t physically be at Allen Park this year, he will certainly be there in spirit and his spirit will live on with all of the ‘youngsters’ in attendance.

Roselle worked for WJTN and Media One Group for over 60 years. Media One Group is a sponsor of the Easter Egg Hunt.

The event will be held outside in the playground areas of Allen Park at 10:30am, Saturday, March 26th. This free event is for children age 12 and under.

There is a significant difference in the way the children will be allowed into the hunt. The age groups will remain the same, but only one group will be allowed inside the Ice Rink at a time starting at 10:30 a.m. Once a group has found all the eggs hidden for their hunt, volunteers will hide the eggs for the next group.

The first age group allowed in will be children 4 and under, followed by children ages 5 to 8 years, and finally children 9 to 12 years of age.

Over 1,000 eggs will be “hidden” in the Hunt area along with over 5,000 pieces of wrapped candy. Two Gold and two Silver eggs that are sponsored through a donation in memoriam of Mark Hess will be hidden in addition to 30 other prize eggs. The Easter Bunny will arrive by fire truck to kick off the event.

The Easter Carnival and the Touch-A-Truck events will be held Saturday from 10am to 1pm at the Safety Village, located at 2695 Route 394 in Ashville (next to BOCES).

The Easter Carnival is an annual event hosted by the Children’s Safety Village that provides games, food, a Chinese auction, train rides, face painting, pictures with the Easter Bunny and more.

The Easter parade starts at noon with prizes for the best dressed. All proceeds made from the Carnival go directly to supporting the important fire, traffic and bike safety classes held at the Safety Village for children in our community.

Touch-A-Truck allows organizations and industries to showcase their unique vehicles and come together to let kids investigate them.

This special afternoon will allow people of all ages to be “up close and personal” with vehicles they may not have had a chance to see before, ranging from specialty vehicles, trucks of all sizes and uses and farm equipment.

JAMESTOWN – The leaders of three city churches are planning a Cross walk of faith and prayer in Jamestown, stopping at several spots around the downtown area.

Rev. Luke Fodor of St Luke’s Episcopal Church, Tara Lamont Eastman, Pastoral Assistant and Director of Youth and Family Ministry at First Lutheran Church and Rev. Robert Hagel of First Presbyterian Church have planned the Cross Walk, which will stop at several sites downtown.

The Cross Walk will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 3 at St Luke’s on the corner of North Main Street and Fourth and continue throughout the city, ending at First Lutheran on Chandler Street.

The walk is open to anyone regardless of their church affiliation.
