JAMESTOWN – Two Jamestown residents were charged late last week after police recovered a loaded and defaced pistol, methamphetamine and fake $100 bills.
Jamestown police were patrolling the north side of the city when they saw a vehicle with a loud muffler driving through the area. Officers pulled the vehicle over and inside were 24 year-old Daniel McKay and 22 year-old Kaylyn Barlow. An investigation led to the discovery of a loaded .380 pistol with its serial number defaced.
McKay allegedly had a suspended driver’s license as well. He faces several vehicle and traffic charges, a New York State Parole violation and charges of second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Barlow was allegedly found with 3.9 grams of methamphetamine, less than one gram of heroin and was charged with third- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Officers also found nine fake $100 bills, though no charges were filed.
Both McKay and Barlow were taken to the Jamestown City Jail until they can be arraigned.

MAYVVILLE – Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson has released a list of county sentences that include four people being sentenced for firearm-related charges.
In early 2017, Swanson announced his office would take a hard-line approach when prosecuting individuals who’ve been arrested on illegal gun-related charges. He said his “Gun Done” policy would involve not accepting any plea deals on gun charges.
Among those who were sentenced for gun-related charges were James Blue of Jamestown, who was sentenced on Feb. 26 to a determinate sentence of four years in State Prison after being convicted on one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. Blue was arrested on June 5, 2017 for possessing a loaded FNH 40-cal pistol that was reportedly stolen from Cattaraugus County.
In another Gun-Done case, 29 year old Michael Thompson of Bemus Point was sentenced to three and a-half years in state prison after being convicted on one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. Thompson was arrested and charged in January 2017 following an investigation into an automobile accident in the Town of Ellery, when an assault rifle with numerous loaded magazine, a sawed off shotgun, commercial and homemade fireworks, and throwing stars were all recovered.
Also sentenced was 18 year old Eduardo Rivera of Jamestown, who was sentenced in February to a determinate sentence of three years in state prison after being convicted on one count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. The Court did not grant youthful offender status.
And 38 year old Jennifer MacGonigal of Chagrin Falls, OH was sentenced in December to two and a-half years in state prison after being convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.

JAMESTOWN – Nine people have been arrested after a major drug sweep by local authorities focusing on the sale and distribution illegal narcotics in the Jamestown area.
According to Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, the Jamestown Police Department worked with New York State Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to execute seven separate search warrants in the city, beginning Wednesday morning. The sting operation was the result of several month-long, joint investigation into the trafficking and selling of heroin and cocaine in Jamestown.

According to Samuelson, police were able to seize a large quantity of heroin, cash, drug paraphernalia including syringes, weapons and prescription medications at six of the seven locations – although specific amounts for each location were not listed. In addition, officers seized cocaine, cash and 31 marijuana plants at the Cherry St. residence.

Other arrests could be taking place after further investigation at the Willis St. and Eighth St. locations.
The nine face various charges ranging from criminal possession of illegal drugs to criminal possession of a weapon. In addition, the three suspects arrested at Cherry St. also face charges related to illegally growing and possession marijuana.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
