JAMESTOWN – Local food and produce will once again be sold in downtown Jamestown starting this weekend.

On Saturday the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation will launch the newly rebranded farmers market, now called The Jamestown Public Market, which will operate in the 200 Block of Cherry Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will be open every Saturday from now through the end of October.

In previous years the market was held on Thursdays and prior to that, Fridays.

The Jamestown Public Market will also feature free live entertainment from local musicians each week along with outdoor seating, food demonstrations and tastings, wellness events, and much more.

JAMESTOWN – Hundreds of volunteers from all over the greater Jamestown area will be coming together on Saturday morning for the annual Hands On Jamestown.

The community-wide effort takes place each spring, with a focus on cleaning and beautifying the streets of Jamestown. During the event, volunteers assist the City of Jamestown Parks Department with flower planting, litter collection, raking, sweeping, and other clean-up activities.

Chris Breen with the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation says the annual event allows residents to get together and focus on cleaning up the city now that warmer weather is here.

“It’s a huge collaboration with our Jamestown Parks Department, Department of Public Works, and the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities,” Breen said. “It’s really nice. One day we all come together for the same mission. We don’t encourage people to just write on their calendar to cleanup Jamestown one day out of the year. We encourage them to do it everyday of the week. But I think we have a larger impact when we do get everybody together for one day.”

Hands On Jamestown will start at 8 a.m. on Tracy Plaza with a check-in that includes food and supplies being offered to participants. The clean-up effort will then get underway and continue until noon.

For more information on Hands On Jamestown or to see the map and register for the event, visit jamestownrenaissance.org or call 664-2477 ext 226.

Following the community-wide clean up effort, a Hands on Jamestown After Party event will take place from noon to 3pm and the Sherwood Arts Complex – which will feature food, live entertainment, and local artists.

“We’re going to have local art, live music, great food from Falconer Foods, coffee and treats from Labyrinth Press Company, and plenty of opportunities to get involved,” explained Vince Liuzzo of Sherwood Arts. “People can also learn about our summer-long Street Art Showdown competition. So bring your lawn chairs and enjoy meeting the people who want to make a positive change in the community.”
