Anthony Neubauer

A Falconer man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for a kidnapping that resulted in a death.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Adler said according to the complaint, on May 27, 2014, 36-year old Anthony Neubauer kidnapped an individual identified as J.A. and transported them from New York to Pennsylvania, resulting in the death of J.A.

Neubauer was arraigned Friday afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah McCarthy and is being held pending a detention hearing on Tuesday, March 28.

The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of life in prison.

According to the Jamestown Post-Journal, the initials “J.A.” and the date of the kidnapping match the disappearance of Joseph D. Anthony, who was last seen May 27, 2014, in the 700 block of East Second Street in Jamestown.

The Post-Journal reported that the FBI executed a federal search warrant near Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania but there was no comment on the subject of the warrant nor if anything was recovered.

Anthony Neubauer was more recently the victim of a shooting at The Bullfrog Hotel on November 30, 2019.

No charges were filed in that case. Former Jamestown Police Chief Harry Snellings stated in February 2020 that with attempts to interview Neubauer through his attorney were unsuccessful, JPD ended its investigation and turned the matter over to the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office.

An appliance fire damaged an office in Jamestown City Hall on Friday, March 17.

Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist informed City Council that an office in the Jamestown Police Department was heavily damaged, “And so we’re in the process of cleaning that up and trying to restore that. We’re working with our insurance department and we’re going through that process now, but it’s going to take a little time. Luckily, the Fire Department was very, very quick in responding (Council President Tony Dolce ‘They’re right next door’). They were right next door, yes! And they were able to get that out but obviously it’s caused some damage in the Police Department.”

Sundquist said Chautauqua County government‘s insurance is involved as well as the office was being used by members of the District Attorney‘s office.

The audit found that between July 1, 2012 and August 3, 2016, the Village Clerk did not deposit $20,000 in real property taxes, water, sewer, and general fund receipts.

According to the report, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office is pursuing an investigation of criminal charges. The Village also is making an inquiry into the missing water and sewer fund deposits. The report further states that bringing charges against the clerk/treasurer involved has been difficult due delays caused by the COVID pandemic in addition to the out-of-state residency of the former clerk/treasurer.

The Comptroller’s Office recommended that the village take appropriate action to recover the missing funds, develop written policies and establish procedures over the cash receipt collection process; and provide adequate oversight and annually audit the Treasurer’s reports and records.

Former Bemus Point Village Clerk Arrested for Theft of Over $60,000 https://www.wrfalp.com/former-bemus-point-village-clerk-arrested-for-theft-of-over-60000/ https://www.wrfalp.com/former-bemus-point-village-clerk-arrested-for-theft-of-over-60000/#respond Wed, 03 Feb 2021 17:10:47 +0000 http://www.wrfalp.com/?p=37051 MEDIA RELEASE FROM STATE COMPTROLLER’S OFFICE

BEMUS POINT – State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt and Chautauqua County Sheriff James B. Quattrone today announced the arrest of Jennifer Jaeger, former Bemus Point village clerk, for the alleged theft of more than $60,000 in village funds.

Jaeger, 38, of Bemus Point, allegedly wrote village checks to herself using forged signatures of officials and had village officials sign blank checks which she then cashed. Additionally, Jaeger used the village bank account to pay for herself and her family’s personal cell phones and car payments, and to purchase Christmas gifts. Jaeger also used a village gasoline credit card to pay for fuel for her personal vehicle. She was employed by the village between 2015 and November of 2020.

“Jaeger allegedly treated the village funds as her personal bank account, writing checks to herself for personal expenses,” DiNapoli said. “Thanks to our partnership with Chautauqua County District Attorney Schmidt and Sheriff Quattrone, her actions have been exposed and she is now being held accountable for her violation of the public trust.”

“This is not a victimless crime,” Schmidt said. “The village of Bemus Point, like many of our local municipalities here in Chautauqua County, is engaged in an every-day battle to service its residents with precious little money. Every dollar stolen is a dollar not spent on the community. No one should use their public office for personal gain.”

Jaeger was charged with grand larceny in the second degree, forgery in the second degree, falsifying business records in the first degree, and official misconduct. Jaeger will be arraigned today in Chautauqua County Court in front of Judge David W. Foley.

The arrest was a result of a joint investigation between the State Comptroller’s Office, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges against the defendant are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
