Jamestown High School A Capella Choir

The Jamestown High School A Cappella Choir will hold its 98th annual “A Cappella Vespers” on Sunday, December 11 and Sunday, December 18.

Both performances will start at 4:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church located at 120 Chandler Street.

Admission is free and a good-will offering will be taken.

This is the first A Cappella Vespers performance since 2019 that will welcome back a full audience. The concert will feature excerpts from major choral works as well as seasonal songs and carols.

The 68-voice A Cappella Choir features smaller ensembles, including the Madrigal Singers, Men of Tomorrow and Ladies of Today. The choir will be accompanied on the piano by Julie Livengood and on the organ by Brian Bogey, the choir’s director emeritus.

Steinway Dedication Concert to Feature Pianist Ron McEntire

Pianist Ron McEntire will perform a concert using the new Steinway grand piano at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, September 25.

The piano is a gift to St. Luke’s from parishioner, Tim Pickett, in memory of his wife, Paula, who passed away on December 27, 2021.

Ron earned a Masters in Music/Organ Performance from Houghton College and currently serves as Minister of Music at St. Luke’s where he plays the organ, piano, and directs the choir.

In May, Ron was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a very aggressive brain cancer. He has undergone surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation. With an uncertain future, he passionately offers this premier concert to share some beautiful music produced on the new grand piano.

The concert also will include Brent Isaacson on percussion, Madeline DeJoy on piano, and Brian Bogey on organ

The performance takes place at 4:00 p.m. A reception will follow.

JCC Concert is Tonight

JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Community College choir, concert band, vocal jazz ensemble, and jazz ensemble will showcase a variety of music styles during a combined performance tonight in the Scharmann Theatre.

Tonight’s concert features the college choir, directed by Brian Bogey; the vocal jazz ensemble, directed by Michael Kelly, and the jazz ensemble, directed by Ralph Rasmusson – who also directs the concert band.

On May 12, the JCC rock ensembles, directed by Bill Eckstrom, will present their Spring Jam featuring rock to acoustic sets. The concert will be fully staged with sound and lighting by Steve Gustafson.

Admission for either show is $4, general public; $3, area students and senior citizens; and $2, JCC Faculty Student Association members. Tickets can be purchased by calling the JCC box office, 338.1187, or at the theatre door prior to a performance.
