They also will review two employee contracts.

The funding for the equipment comes from American Rescue Plan lost revenue monies. Following last week’s work session discussion, a resolution to also purchase a sidewalk plow for $153,259 was added. This plow would replace a 1979 Bombardier.

Under new business, Council will vote on a contract with the Jamestown Professional Firefighters Association Local 137. This contract runs from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024. Four new firefighters would be hired in June under the contract to man new EMS vehicles. The contract also includes wage increases of 2.5% for 2021 through 2023, and a 2.75% increase in 2024. There also are prescription pay increases, increases to health insurance plans, and health insurance for new hires ends at the Federal Medicare eligible age.

Also under new business is a contract with the Kendall Club Police Benevolent Association. The contract covers January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2024. The contract also includes wage increases of 2.5% for 2021 through 2023, and a 2.75% increase in 2024. There also are increases for prescription costs and health insurance plans

Council also will be voting on appointments to city boards and commissions that were tabled at the organizational meeting held on January 3rd. On that list included new appointments to the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities that replaced long-time board members Greg Rabb and Jim Olson, Council member Marie Carrubba, and former Council member Grant Olson.

At the start of the meeting, a presentation will be given honoring the former City Historian, B. Delores Thompson for her work in preserving the history of the City of Jamestown.

JAMESTOWN – A new historic marker has been added to downtown Jamestown.

On Tuesday afternoon the city’s historic marker committee was joined by mayor Sam Teresi, other city officials, and local business owners to unveil the marker for the Thurston Block, located along E. 4th Street between Main and Pine Streets.

The area, which today is known as Thurston Terrace, features a series of row buildings that include various businesses and residences over the years.

The buildings were developed by Dr. J. Hamilton Thurston between 1875-1880. City historian B. Delores Thompson said Thurston was the first housing developer to build row houses in Western New York.  During the unveiling ceremony, Thompson also outlined the numerous residents and businesses that called the block home over the years. Today, businesses located on the block include Maurice’s Hair Salon, Labyrinth Press Co., and Brazil Craft Beer & Wine Lounge.

The historic marker is the 75th one installed in the city.

JAMESTOWN – The city of Jamestown Historical Marker Committee has unveiled another marker in the city.

On Tuesday afternoon city historian B. Delores Thompson, Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi and other city officials gathered at Hope’s Steel Windows & Doors on Hopkins Ave on the east side of town to present the newest city marker commemorating the business that’s been in operation in the city for more than 100 years.

Thompson said the location for the new historical marker was selected for several reasons.

“Hopes as been one of the industries in Jamestown for 102 years. It’s been one of the mainstays for all of those years so it is historical. It’s part of our past and part of our history,” She explained. “But it is also continuing to serve clientele worldwide with its windows, and so it continues to make history for Jamestown and putting Jamestown on the worldwide map. We can be very proud of that.”

Hope’s Windows remains in operation with dozens of employees taking time out from their work day to witness the historical marker dedication ceremony. The newest marker brings the overall total of historical markers in the city to 69.
