Second St. and N. Main St. during the early morning hours and within an hour of each other. Jamestown police believe the crimes were committed by the same person.

It’s not the first time the stores have been robbed during the overnight shift. According to one of the employees at the 7-Eleven on Second St., the store has been robbed three different times at gunpoint in the past month alone. As a result, an online petition has been created, calling for store management to increase safety for overnight employees.

Long-time store employee and Jamestown area resident Brielle Robbins has already received more than 480 signatures on her Change.org petition as of Monday morning.

In the petition, entitled “Make 7-Eleven a more safe workplace at night” – Robbins outlined her concerns, saying the store has poor lighting and surveillance equipment. She also said that the store does have a silent alarm, but during the last two most recent robberies it didn’t work. And she says that the store only has one employee working overnight.

Robbins says that management simply advises the staff to follow the store’s established safety procedures, which includes keeping only $30 in the drawers during the overnight hours.

Robbins is asking management to either hire an armed security guard for the overnight shifts or eliminate the overnight hours of operation. No word on what reaction, if any, store ownership has regarding the petition from one of its employees.
