Still No Arrests in Case Involving Beating Death of 16-Month-Old

April 21, 2014 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Jamestown Police BadgeJAMESTOWN – City police have yet to make an arrest in the beating death of a 16-month old girl that took place last week in Jamestown.

According to police, 16-month-old Nayla Hodnett of 218 1/2 Newland Ave was taken to WCA Hospital’s emergency room by her mother last Wednesday night, before being flown to Buffalo Women & Children’s Hospital for further treatment. The child later died of her injuries Thursday morning.

An autopsy at Erie County Medical Center determined the child died of blunt-force trauma, which means she was more than likely beaten.

Police say no one has been taken into custody yet but the investigation continues. That includes interviewing family members and neighbors, as well as examining evidence at the home. Police say the child’s mother had an on-again, off-again relationship with a local man, but no names are being released.

Anyone who may have information on the case is asked to call the JPD at 483-7537 or the anonymous tip line at 483-TIPS.
