Narcan Training Scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday in Jamestown

August 11, 2015 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

naloxoneJAMESTOWN – The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will once again sponsor two free Narcan training sessions this week. The training will help to teach first responders and other county residents how to administer the drug, which is used to counteract overdoses caused by heroin and other opioids.

A Training session will take place today at 4 p.m. at Chautauqua Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Council, located in Jamestown at the Sprinchorn Building, 501 West Third St., Suites 3 and 4.

A second session is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Mental Health Association at the Gateway Center, 31 Water St., #7 in Jamestown.

Health officials say the goal of the training is to prevent death and other negative consequences of opioid overdose by training non-medical responders to recognize a suspected opioid overdose and to take appropriate action.

Upon successful completion of the 90-minute training, each participant will be provided with a certificate and a free naloxone (Narcan) kit. The trainings are open to the public.

To register, call CASAC at (716) 664-3608.
