MORNING NEWS: Reed Hosts Event Aimed at Collaboration Between Manufacturing and Education

March 26, 2013 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Tom Reed joined one of his colleagues in Washington recently to host a workforce development panel that focuses on the best practices and policies for workforce development in the manufacturing sector.

The Corning Republican joined ohio democrat Tim Ryan on Thursday as members of the bipartisan House Manufacturing Caucus, and welcomed individuals in both the manufacturing and education sectors, who presented ideas on how the two sectors can collaborate in the future.

Reed said that as demand continues to grow for highly-skilled workers, it’s increasingly important lawmakers help bridge that gap to fill in-demand positions. He asaid that Thursday’s panel shed light on ways education and the manufacturing industry can partner to prepare students for jobs in manufacturing.

The Caucus heard from representatives from Finger Lakes Community College, BASF Corporation, the Department of Education’s Office for Vocational and Adult Education, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
