MORNING NEWS: Brocton Football Play Severely Injured During Friday Night Contest

UPDATE: The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting that Janes passed away as a result of his injury.  [9:25 p.m., 9/16/2013]

BROCTON – The community of Brocton is continuing to rally its support behind a student who was seriously injured while playing a football game Friday Night.

According to various news sources, 16-year-old Damon Janes was playing football for the Brocton-Westfield team at Portville when he was injured after a helmet-to-helmet hit during the third quarter. He was taken off the field on a stretcher by paramedics. The remainder of the game was cancelled following the incident.

Janes continues to remain in critical condition at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. his family is requesting that their privacy. Meawhile, students and faculty at Brocton School District have been asked to wear green clothes and ribbons to school today. Councilors will also be on hand to assist with any students who need them.
