Until recently, I volunteered as a van driver for the Buffalo VA Hospital and often picked up or dropped off veteran patients at Spallino Towers. The Towers is a striking example of an edifice designed to house the unloved, unheralded, and unwanted flotsam of our society. Truly sad.
