Lillian Dickson Park Meeting Set for Tonight

May 15, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

JAMESTOWN – Another community meeting involving Jamestown’s Lillian Dickson Park on Falconer Street will take place tonight and anyone wanting to learn more about the project is encouraged to stop by.

For the past several months, residents around the park have been working on a plan to help renovate the park and make it safer and more accessible for children throughout the neighborhood. Local resident Dave Reinhardt is helping to spearhead the initiative and says its really a group effort between several different organizations. He says it got underway after he and some other residents in the neighborhood became concerned about some of the activity they noticed in and around the park area, including vandalism and drug and gang activity.

Also included among the groups that are also helping with the park renovation effort is the Chautauqua County Health Network, which is using funding from the Creating Healthy Places initiative. Earlier this year, organizers discussed various fundraising initiatives and set a goal of $30,000 to be raised over the next year to help cover the cost of renovating the park.

Tonight’s meeting will focus on the scheduled park clean-up day, taking place on Saturday, May 19 as part of Hands on Jamestown. The meeting will take place at Lillian Dickson Park, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Everyone in the community is invited to attend. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
