Jamestown School Budget, Board Vote is Today

May 15, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

JAMESTOWN – Residents throughout Chautauqua County and the rest of the state will be voting on their local 2012-2013 school district budgets today, along with voting on school board members.

In Jamestown, residents will be voting on $76.8 million dollar budget that contains a $2.34 million, or 3.14 percent, increase over the current year’s spending plan. The budget does not call for any increase in the local property tax rate.

The Jamestown Public Schools District also has three Board of Education seats up for a vote. Of the three open seats, two carry a three-year term, and one carries a one-year term. The seat carrying the one-year term is one left open by Barbara Piazza’s resignation in December. The seat had been filled by Daniel Johnson, who was appointed by the board in February to finish out the year. Christine Schnars, board president, Laurel Lucas and Johnson each have terms that are expiring this year, and each are hoping to reclaim their places with the Board of Education. Additionally, Patrick Slagle and Dave Daversa are running for the open seats.

The Jamestown Budget and Board of Election vote will take place from noon until 9 p.m. Polling Places will be located at three Jamestown Public Schools: Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington. For more information, call 483-4420.
