Jamestown Police Investigate Five Arsons in 36 hours on City’s North Side

March 27, 2017 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

JAMESTOWN – Jamestown police have yet to make any arrests in connection to a string of arsons that took place in Jamestown late last week.

According to the Post-Journal, a total of five fires were intentionally set between early Thursday night and early Saturday morning, with the majority taking place between the hours of 11 p.m. Friday and 2a.m. Saturday.  During that three-hour period, members of the Jamestown Fire Department were called to a total of four fires, all on the north side of town and all within a few blocks of each other.

On Thursday night, March 23, a fire took place at 621 East Sixth Street. The JFD was called to the scene shortly after 6 p.m. to find a fire coming out of the attic of the structure, which was all-but-destroyed.  It was the third report of a fire at the home in less than a month.

Another fire on the same block took place Friday night at about 11 p.m., this time at 650 East Sixth Street. Shortly after that fire was reported, another call came in just after midnight, with crews responding to another fire at 220 Crossman Street. Then just after 1 a.m. Saturday, crews were called to a fire at 22 West 11th Street. And then at about 2 a.m., crews were also called to a fire at 33 West 10th Street.

All the fires reportedly took place at unoccupied homes that have been vacant and/or condemned.

Police confirmed over the weekend that all five fires were intentionally set and are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect or suspects.

In addition to the five fires on Thursday and Friday nights, another fire was intentionally set at a vacant house at 441 Winsor Street on Wednesday morning, but damp conditions prevented it from growing larger.

Anyone with information involving suspicious activity connected to any of fires is asked to call the Jamestown Police Department’s tips line at 483-8477.
