County Lawmakers Table Resolution to Relocate Jamestown DMV Office

February 26, 2015 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

NYSDMVJAMESTOWN – It looks like the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Jamestown won’t be moving to Fluvanna Ave. after all.

That’s according to Chautauqua County legislator Paul Whitford (D-Jamestown, District 13), who said that earlier this month during the county’s administrative services committee, he asked his colleagues to table a resolution calling that would move the Jamestown DMV office from its current location on Cherry St. to the Northcrest Business Park at 222 Fluvanna Ave – which once housed the Ames and Big N Department stores.

“I didn’t think there was a sense of urgency and we had time to look at all of our options,” Whitford explained Wednesday night during the legislator’s monthly voting session. “That’s why I asked [Jamestown Development Director] Vince DeJoy and [Jamestown Renaissance Corporation Executive Director] Greg Lindquist to come in and give some other options for [County Clerk] Larry Barmore to look at. They did have a meeting the following day and it was very successful. They did find another location and they’re now working on that.”

Barmore’s office is responsible for overseeing the local DMV operations and it was Barmore who said there was a need to move the office in Jamestown, citing a need for better efficiency in working with customers as well as security of information.

Whitford says that while he can not yet publicly comment on the proposed new location, he does say that it would be at a location that is closer to downtown, compared to the Fluvanna Ave. location. He also said that the cost would be lower than what the county would have paid, had it opted to go with the Fluvanna Ave. location. He adds that more details will be likely be announced in March.
