JAMESTOWN – City police have arrested a suspect they believe to be involved in a pair of downtown robberies that took place last month.

According to Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, police arrested 23 year-old Thomas Lawson following an investigation into the two armed robberies that took place at the N. Main St. 7-Eleven on March 24 and the CVS Pharmacy in Brooklyn Square on March 26. During the investigation, police also executed a search warrant at Lawson’s downtown business – Van’s Texas Hots – where they found items from the CVS robbery in the basement.  Lawson was charged with 2 counts of first degree robbery and is currently awaiting arraignment in city jail.

Samuelson said that police are still looking for a second person who was also involved in the CVS robbery.

Both robberies took place early in the morning. In the N. Main 7-Eleven robbery, a masked suspect entered the business around 5 a.m. March 24, displayed a knife and made off with undisclosed cash and cigarettes. The second robbery at CVS took place shortly after 2 a.m. on March 26. In that incident, two masked suspects entered the store, displayed a knife, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes and medication.

A third robbery took place earlier this week at the 7-Eleven on the corner of E. Second and Buffalo Streets. Police believe that robbery was not connected to the earlier two that took place downtown. The suspect in that incident is described a 6-2 black male who displayed a handgun and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Anyone who may have information any of the robberies is asked to contact the Jamestown Police Department at at 483-7531 or 483-TIPS (8477).
