Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Thwarted Robbery, Shooting in Brocton

Chautauqua County SheriffBROCTON – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a shooting that took place Friday Night, July 29 in the village of Brocton.

According to a media release sent out Saturday morning, deputies responded to a reported fight at 64 Central Ave., Brocton at 11:13 p.m. Friday. Police say that earlier, three subjects had arrived at this residence and subsequently got into an altercation with two residents living at the residence. During the altercation, one of the three subjects was allegedly shot by a person living at the Central Ave. address. The other two subjects ran from the residence after the shooting.

Investigators say the two suspects, 35 year-old Lamar Jontill Matthews of Portland and39 year-old Shane T. Wynn-Hopkins of Meadville, PA were subsequently located in the Village of Westfield, and subsequently arrested for Attempted Robbery 3rd Degree. Wynn-Hopkins faces an additional charge of Burglary in the 2nd Degree. The two were arraigned and sent to the county jail on $50,000 cash bail.

Police are not releasing the name of the third subject who was shot. They say he was treated at the scene by Brocton Fire Rescue and Portland Fire Rescue and then Star Flighted to Erie County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the two residents are not being released. No other charges were filed but the investigation is continuing.
